The Bear Is Back — A nod to the workwear heroes.

There’s just something about the series The Bear that hits differently. Maybe it’s the raw energy of the kitchen, or the knife-edge tension, the found-family dynamic, or even the soundtrack that feels like a mixtape pulled straight from a back-alley kitchen radio: chaotic, nostalgic, and impossibly cool. But if you ask us? It’s the style.

From Carmy's clean lines, rolled sleeves, signature white tees and workwear basics to Sydney's understated, quietly humble workwear, relaxed-fit pants, simple tees, and her signature vintage bandanas. Each piece is not just about style but instead a subtle nod to their personal journey, identity and deep-rooted heritage.

As season 4 drops this week, we dug into some of the characters' most iconic pieces and the history behind them.

Carmy - From Utility to Icon

The classic, white t-shirt remains arguably one of the most essential pieces in any wardrobe and certainly that of Carmy’s in the show. A simple piece that is anything but basic. Chosen with intention for its quality, craftsmanship and longevity.

The humble T-shirt, however, wasn’t always a style statement. In the early 1900s, originally issued by the U.S. Navy as an undergarment, it was a practical, no-fuss layer worn beneath uniforms. But by the 1950s, it had found its way into the spotlight, thanks to the likes of Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire and James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. What was once hidden under military gear had become an outward symbol of rebellion, masculinity, and effortless styling. It’s not surprising that, every decade since, the white tee has remained, adopted by punk bands, mechanics, designers, skaters, chefs, and street-style icons alike. There’s a reason stylists, photographers, and everyday wearers still gravitate toward the plain white T-shirt. It’s a blank canvas, but one that speaks volumes.

Not all white T-shirts, however, are created equal. We’d like to think that if Carmy ever got his hands on our 50’s Crafted T-Shirt, he might never go back. Built with a 250gsm interlocked organic cotton, it’s a tee that feels like your favourite vintage find (minus the wear and tear). With a 50s-inspired slim fit, ribbed collar, and slightly shorter sleeves, it’s a nod to 1950s workwear, while the clean and minimal finish makes it sharp enough to wear straight out of the kitchen and onto whatever comes next.

Trust us when we say, it’s not just a T-shirt. It’s the hardest-working piece in your wardrobe - just ask Carmy.

Tied to Identity

Deep-rooted, timeless yet practical.

The bandana’s story stretches back centuries. Coming from the Hindi word bandhana, meaning “to tie.” Bandanas were originally brightly dyed cotton or silk cloths used in South Asia and the Middle East, prized for their bold colours and patterns. Come the 18th and 19th century, in the American West, cowboys and miners began using bandanas as multifunctional gear to protect their faces from dust, wipe sweat and even in some cases as makeshift slings.

Over time, they evolved beyond practicality, being embraced by rock stars like Jimi Hendrix, who often tied one around his head during his performances and Bruce Springsteen, who adapted it as part of his working-class American image. In the bear, Sydney wears hers as an integral part of her identity, an outlet to express her mood and affirm her identity. It’s also a symbol of her creative expression.

Oozing with character, ours features a screen-printed artwork cased within a recyclable cardboard sleeve with a hand-drawn design.

More than just a functional piece, a bandana elevates any outfit, channelling heritage, confidence, and timeless style. It’s easy to understand exactly why Sydney wears hers every day.

Every Thread Earned

Denim plays a surprisingly important role in the show, a fabric that shows up time and time again. We learn this early on in the pilot when we discover Carmy is quite the admirer of his collection - a stash so big he’s literally got jeans in his oven.

We can’t say we blame him.

Durability, heritage, and authenticity. Historically, this is what denim represents. Born in the late 1800s, when Levi Strauss and tailor Jacob Davis patented the first riveted jeans in 1873. Denim went on to withstand the tough conditions of miners, railroad workers, and labourers during America’s industrial boom.

Over time, its popularity rose, and we began seeing stars like James Dean and Marlon Brando on the big screen, turning denim into a badge of youthful defiance.

Another key piece in most people's wardrobe, we like to think ours could be your new go-tos. We believe that they are so much more than the fabric, but instead built to last, woven with memories, every fade, crease and frayed hem tells a story and the best bit? They only get better with time.

Comfort and Craft

In the bear, the attention to utility is constant. Reflecting the character's status, evolution, values, and identity. There's no doubt that workwear is functional, but it’s also about comfort.  Breathable pieces that are lightweight and relaxed.

The roots of workwear stretch from farmers and miners to railroad workers and factory labourers, primarily during the mid-18th century.

During the World Wars, military gear influenced civilian workwear with multi-pocket jackets, fatigue pants, and rugged boots, a few items, as you may know, we are quite fond of.

Today, workwear is embraced by Artists, skaters, and musicians alike, like Bruce Springsteen’s blue-collar look in the ’80s to Ryan Gosling’s scuffed chore coats in Drive, workwear has long symbolised toughness and independence.

Whether you’re in the kitchen, the studio, or just inspired by the precision and authenticity of The Bear, investing in quality workwear isn’t about style; it’s a commitment to doing things right.
