Revving Up Style and Speed: The Formula One Movie and Motorsport Fashion

Lightning fast cars, high-speed action, cutting-edge technology, precision, power and pure drama - a few words we feel describe the world of Formula One today. This summer, it’s sprinting off the track and onto the big screen. In a spectacle described by the movie director, Joseph Kosinski, as "unlike anything I've done before".

Starring Brad Pitt and produced with first-hand experience and input of racing legend Lewis Hamilton, the F1 Movie brings the speed, strategy, and the sheer spectacle of Formula One to life through a whole new lens.

Rebels and Racing Legends

First, though, let's box and reverse it back to the early 1960s, the golden age of Formula One. Think icons like James Hunt, unbuttoned overalls and wild hair, Niki Lauda with his signature cap, relentlessly determined, and Ayrton Senna, bold team colours, a force of nature, arguably one of the greatest of all time. It was an era where cars were sleek, the danger was real, competition was fierce and the fashion?

Unapologetically authentic.

Much like how we’d describe Brad Pitt's character Sonny Hayes when he arrives full throttle into the world of F1, boldly clad in double-denim and wearing a pair of Italian-made cowboy boots. This raw, no-flashy branding, no trend-led, character-driven style weaves consistently throughout the film, reflecting his carefree, often rebellious off-grid lifestyle.

Timeless Racing Style, Reimagined

But Sonny’s style isn’t just about him; it’s also a consistent play on the heydays of motosport. Striking the perfect balance of vintage grit and contemporary style, mixing vintage sports pieces with functional yet stylish pieces, topped off with some oversized aviator sunglasses or a cap with a laid-back edge.

We like to think that if Sonny got his hands on our Paradise Trophy Collection, he’d be quite fond of it, with pieces perfect for the ageing rebel - effortlessly cool and iconic.

A Genuine Hero Piece Steeped in Racing History

A driver's wardrobe, however, wouldn’t be complete without the racing jumpsuit. Originally introduced in the 1950s as a safety necessity designed to protect drivers from fire and friction, racing suits quickly evolved into visual signatures of the sport, adorned with team colours, sponsor patches, and custom tailoring. Its design is functional, but over decades, it’s become a symbol of legacy, rebellion, and speed, a hero piece in its own right.

Here at P&Co, we are big fans of the hero piece, and we like to think our Paradise Bomber sits proudly in this category. Inspired by vintage motorsport and classic varsity silhouettes, and finished with racing-inspired patches and embroidery. Our statement bomber is designed for everyday utility but built with nostalgia in mind.

Powering motorsport’s unsung heroes

We couldn’t talk about the heroes without the ones not always in the spotlight - the unsung heroes. The mechanics, engineers, and pit crews, whose precision, speed, and grit keep the entire operation running, a factor made clear not only in the F1 movie, but in the sport itself. Their role has always been crucial, much like their uniforms, which have reflected that: functional, hard-wearing, and built for performance.

Their clothes aren’t always the loudest but instead echo mastery, endurance, and teamwork - often they are the most essential.

Women: F1’s Rising Trailblazers

Not forgetting the leading female characters in the Formula One movie and the importance of their role and empowering portrayals. Much like in the world of Formula One today, women are now in key roles, making strides and becoming trailblazers in their own right.

We love that Formula One is now more so becoming a place where girls feel welcome and, most importantly, represented.

Our Paradise Trophy collection calls the girls to the front with the ultimate ‘cool girl’ statement pieces. From the Pit lane to the grandstands, these pieces set the stage for a champagne-soaked podium finish.
