The History of THE HENLEY

It wasn’t long before the design moved beyond the water. Working men picked it up as a reliable under-layer; simple, comfortable, and made to take a beating. Worn under heavy outerwear, it was a piece you didn’t think twice about. The kind of shirt that just worked.

A Quiet Icon

For decades, the henley stayed in the background, until designers and filmmakers brought it back into the spotlight in the late 20th century. It was the shirt that looked lived-in, a little tougher than a tee, but more laid-back than a polo. The kind of piece that said more by doing less. It’s a piece that has never truly gone out of style because of its versatility. It’s an easy go-to for both smart and casual looks,  it layers well and looks better the more it’s worn. It doesn’t shout for attention, it just gets on with the job - like it always has. 

Our Take

We’ve taken that history and built our own version: the Crafted Heavyweight Henley. Made from 300gsm organic cotton, finished with a button placket and considered details, it’s designed to last and to be worn hard.
