Postcards from Oregon
We just launched our new Winter collection, which features some key outerwear pieces for the season, so we felt like it was only right to test them out in the right kind of environment.
We sent our Powell Quilted Puffer Jacket along with some of our favourite layering pieces out to photographerNick Bondarev, who headed out to the Salmon River Trailhead in Oregon, along with his dog Alaska, and model Nathan Duffy.
We chose Salmon River Trailhead as its known for its vast, sweeping view of the Salmon River Canyon, massive old-growth trees and unseen cascading waterfalls and we knew that this would be the perfect backdrop for a Winter shoot. Found just off the slopes of Mount Hood, the trail follows along the Salmon River for 14 miles, passing rocky cliffs and then plunging into extremely lush forests which is exactly what we had in mind when we were planning the shoot.
Introducing: The Powell Quilted Puffer Jacket
A men’s regular-fit jacket, designed to offer lightweight warmth, perfect for Winter layering. This durable piece has a 100% nylon exterior with a polyester ripstop lining, featuring square quilting for extra comfort & contemporary styling.
This particular design was inspired by vintage Down jackets that were designed to stop explorers from catching hypothermia on their travels. During the British expedition to Mount Everest in 1922, Australian George Finch tested a prototype jacket filled with natural down, whilst other members of the expedition wore tweed jackets. He was actually the only one to not suffer from the freezing temperatures. Since then, there have been lots of different versions of the quilted jacket - all of which have laid the foundations for the modern puffer and down jackets that are worn by so many today. The jackets today are being developed with more and more technical and innovative materials, introducing more synthetic fabrics which are lighter and more practical than the heavier jackets that came before. Whilst our take on this style is much more simple and lightweight, it’s still the perfect companion for those everyday adventures.
