Established in 2013, the two founders of what was initially called ‘Babes in Borrego’ met at the Born Free Motorcycle show. Having become good friends they decided to reach out to fellow female riders on social media in hope of putting together a group ride of about 10. When more than 50 girls and their bikes turned up, they knew they had something worth persisting. 5 years on and with thousands in attendance, their aim is still the same: to give women, the confidence and motivation they need to attend other motorcycle events and to find their place, amongst friends, in the moto’ community.
This year saw numbers soar and the quality of the stalls (and support) from their sponsors was immense! Sponsorship came from the likes of Red Wing, Sailor Jerry, Triumph and Biltwell; who brought along with them their ‘Bro-deo’ mechanical bull which provided enough entertainment and carnage to last the whole weekend! There was also the “Real Deal” workshop which allowed the girls to really get their hands greasy- with classes in blacksmithing, welding, leather work and they even hosted a bike show!
As much as there was going on at camp, those who remained inside the gates really missed out! Throughout the day the babes, along with Biltwell hosted a number of rides out (makes sense), exploring southern California. For those who just wanted a leisurely 1hour 30 minute trip, there was the winding roads towards Pioneer Town (60miles), and for those badasses up for a real voyage there was the 300 miles through to Salton Sea and the ‘Salvation Mountain’- which offered salty air, sunsets and a banana museum…
