Off The Clock
With Austin Dixon
Inspired by the uniforms worn by the US military during their downtime, our new Depot Shirts will take you from a day in the workshop to an evening at the beach. Made from a mid-weight cotton canvas, they are both durable & wearable- providing a laid-back summer alternative to our classic workwear range.
We sent Austin Dixon, a long-time friend of the brand, a Depot Shirt in hickory stripe to see how it would hold up after a day in the workshop. We also took the time to learn more about his trade, understand his influences & how he spends his downtime.
Available in 4 new colourways, our Depot Shirts will look as at home in the workplace as they do off the clock- whether you're spending time with friends, hitting the bar or taking some well-deserved time relaxing in the sun.

P&Co: Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Austin Dixon, born and raised in San Diego, CA. Im a metal fabricator and welder. I specialize in architectural components and custom furniture. My business is called Dixon Design Studio.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I always try to start the morning with a flat white. Usually give the waves a look, if it’s promising, I will try to get out for a surf. After that I head inland to my workshop. Running a business is constant problem solving, no project is the same, back and forth with design ideas with clients and trying to keep up with build schedules and deadlines. Many long days are spent in my shop. It’s a labor of love.
Do you have a favourite project or piece you've worked on?
I've been lucky enough to build out a few office/creative spaces for local brands around here. Working with companies and people that trust my craft is very humbling. At the moment I am excited to be in the beginning phases of building out a retail store across the country in Miami. That will be a fun one.
Where do you find inspiration? Who or what has been your biggest influence?
Since I was a kid, my love of motorcycles has led me to this interest in working with my hands. My father, a now retired sculptor, provided me lots of hands on experience with tools and comfort being in a workshop. It was only natural to see that evolution and create my own path within that world. I'm constantly inspired by other craftsman and always pushing myself to build things more creatively and efficiently.
How do you spend your downtime?
I love a good road trip. Loading the truck with my lady, my camping gear, motorcycle on the back, and a couple good friends. Any adventure that starts with those components is sure to be a good time.
How do you find a good work/life balance?
When you love what you do for work and work for yourself, everyday seems to have some sort of tie back to it. Im okay with that. I enjoy the ride but definitely plan time to decompress from it. I believe having the flexibility to travel and take a few days off every once in a while is one of the biggest advantages of my career. It’s a good way to find new inspiration and instills the eagerness to work hard upon returning home.
And what’s next for you?
I have some work trips planned but nothing too exciting in the near future. Just constantly trying to progress and push forward. Excited to spend this fast approaching summer at the beach when I can make time to do so. Life is good at the moment! Thank you for reading!
How did you find our workwear pieces?
P&Co has been a great company to watch evolve over the years. It has been a while since previously doing a proper shoot with you guys but once I saw the workwear line I knew I had to get my hands on some clothes. It is nice that I can incorporate the clothing into my everyday wear. I live in these 304 Carpenter pants, working or not.
