Every campaign starts with an initial idea. Sometimes it ends up looking exactly how you imagined and other times, it takes a few unexpected twists and turns before it gets there.
For this collection, we wanted to really capture the feeling of an old sailing club; somewhere filled with stories and weathered memorabilia. The collection itself takes inspiration from classic nautical style, reimagined through a heritage P&Co lens, so we knew the setting needed to feel authentic.
Our first stop was the North Yorkshire fishing village of Staithes. With its historic harbour, winding streets and dramatic coastline, it felt like the perfect backdrop to bring the collection to life. We spent the day chasing the light along the harbour and waterfront, but the weather had other ideas, unfortunately. Strong winds and harsh sunlight meant much of what we captured didn't quite translate the way we'd hoped, so we knew we had a challenge ahead of us.
We’ve worked with studio-creative Tom O’Dell in the past, and he suggested creating the vision inside his little Camberwell studio. Working against a pretty tight deadline, we transformed the space into a nostalgic yacht club that felt as though it had been pieced together over decades.
Every corner of the set told a story. Vintage sailing memorabilia, weathered books, reclaimed furniture, framed photographs and maritime artefacts were carefully sourced from junk shops, antique stores, markets and charity shops across London. Some pieces came from Tom's own ever-growing prop collection, while others were one-off finds that seemed too good to leave behind, including an amazing ship's rudder rescued from the wall of a junk shop. The result felt lived-in and full of personality, perfectly complementing the collection without distracting from it.
It's easy to look back at a finished campaign and assume everything went exactly to plan, but the reality is often very different. Creative work is about adapting, solving problems and finding opportunities where you least expect them. In the end, the change of direction gave us something even stronger than we'd originally imagined.
And, in the end, our shoot in Staithes didn’t go to waste. All of that moody landscape set the backdrop and built the world where our P&Co Sailing Club lived.
Sometimes the best ideas aren't the ones you start with, they're the ones you discover along the way.
