Keeping the Spirit Alive:

Le Hangar 23

When we set out to shoot our first Autumn campaign in Downtown LA, we wanted a motorcycle that felt like it could’ve been lifted straight out of a photograph of Bob Dylan in the ’60s - raw, stripped back, and full of soul. That search led us to Elliot, the man behind Le Hangar 23, and his perfectly weathered Triumph.

From a French Farm Hangar to the California Desert

Elliot’s story starts far from Los Angeles, in the French countryside, where he spent his summers in his grandfather’s farm shop, known simply as the hangar.

“Whenever I visited France, all I wanted to do was hang out in the hangar with my grandpa,” he recalls. “Growing up in suburban Huntington Beach, I didn’t have many chances to get dirty working on things, so I soaked up as much of it as I could.”

It was there he learned how to weld for the first time - badly, as he admits - but it opened his eyes to the beauty of craft. “Just learning how [to weld] opened my eyes to all the ways you could make and fix things.” That hands-on approach would go on to define everything he does.

The Allure of Triumph

For Elliot, the obsession with Triumph motorcycles began with a single image: a TR6 desert sled kicking up dust on a dirt road.

“The simplicity of the design and the way it looked like it could go anywhere really stuck with me,” he says. “It felt like a bike that had endless opportunities- you could build it for a purpose and actually go out and use it.”

After years of tinkering in his garage, a chance meeting at a swap meet led him to a job at Triumph Classic Motorcycles, where he honed his skills under the guidance of a seasoned mechanic named Tink. But Elliot’s ambitions stretched beyond the workshop walls- he wanted to build something that brought people together.

That’s where Le Hangar 23 was born: a nod to his grandfather’s workshop, and a place designed to make the world of vintage motorcycles more accessible.

“The restoration customers at Triumph Classic Motorcycles were mostly older guys, and younger riders were missing from the picture,” he explains. “With the high cost of bikes, parts, and just the knowledge needed, it can be tough for new people to get into it. I wanted to create something that made it more approachable and gave people a way to be part of it.”

The Craft of Keeping History Alive

At Le Hangar 23, Elliot and his team focus mainly on late ’60s Triumph twins - machines from what he calls the “last great moment” in British motorcycling. “The late ’60s Triumph twins are the ones we can consistently get right every time,” he says. “It feels like we’re holding on to that last great moment before things started going downhill for the British motorcycle industry.”

Restoration, of course, comes with its share of challenges. “Sometimes you’re fighting parts that haven’t come apart in 60 years, or you’re dealing with components that no longer have exact replacements,” Elliot says. But for him, those frustrations are part of the magic. “The bikes that give you the most headaches are always the most rewarding once you finally get them running on the road again. Every bike we save from a scrapyard feels like a win.”

And while some purists might insist on factory-spec rebuilds, Elliot isn’t afraid to mix the old with the new. “If a bike comes in 100% original, I’ll do my best to keep it that way. But if it’s already been messed with or we’re building it from parts, I have no problem using newer components if it means the customer ends up with a bike that’s more reliable and enjoyable to ride.”

A Culture Built on Grit

Southern California has long been a haven for motorcycle culture, and the vintage British scene is no exception. “There are a lot of people here who really love vintage British motorcycles,” Elliot says. “You’ve got a few clubs with folks who’ve been in the hobby for decades, and then you’ve got plenty of garage enthusiasts keeping it alive in their own way.”

At the heart of Le Hangar 23 is the idea of community. Elliot’s goal for the coming year is to create more casual, low-barrier events that bring riders together, no matter their level of experience. “It’s cool to see a new generation drawn to these bikes for the same reasons we are,” he says. “There’s a big resurgence of people getting into vintage everything: music, art, clothes - and motorcycles are part of that.”

“It feels like we’re holding on to that last great moment before things started going downhill for the British motorcycle industry.

More Than Just Machines

For Elliot, vintage motorcycles represent something deeper; a connection between rider and machine that’s all but lost in the modern era. “Everything,” he says simply when asked what a vintage Triumph gives him that a modern bike can’t. “Back then, you didn’t have a choice, you had to build a real relationship with your motorcycle.”

That love of the old extends beyond bikes. He finds inspiration in vintage clothing, music, and design, things that were “made with care and built to last.” His dream project? A period-correct desert sled, full of history and stories.

And while he’s quick to downplay his success, it’s clear that Elliot’s building something special. “What would make me happiest,” he says, “is if, in 5 or 10 years, I see a vintage Triumph randomly cruising down the road and can feel like we helped keep that part of history alive.”

Full Circle

It felt fitting, then, that our Autumn shoot, which was rooted in rebellion and Americana, featured one of Elliot’s Triumphs. Just like Dylan’s own rides in the ’60s, the bike we used carried with it a story of independence, craft, and a touch of chaos.

Because at its core, that’s what both Le Hangar 23 and P&Co stand for: keeping the spirit of the past alive, one imperfect, beautiful machine at a time.
