Our Sustainable Journey

We have always appreciated the outdoors and what mother nature has to offer us. We believe that it’s our responsibility to make sure that our forests & oceans are still there for future free-thinkers to explore- which is why we’re adapting the way we do things.

We’re making the small changes that will make a huge difference- beginning with ditching the plastic.

At the end of last year we made the move from plastic to 100% recyclable brown paper mailer bags, swapped to reusable cotton bags for our smaller accessories & removed the plastic sleeves from our socks and bandanas. 

Working closely with our manufacturers to find sustainable sources, we are now on track to have removed all plastic from our packaging by the end of the year. We have already begun to make the transition into 100% biodegradable polybags that are made from plants, not plastic.

One of the biggest contributions to climate change is fast fashion, which is why it is important for us to craft products that last. It is not just the responsibility of consumers to avoid fast-fashion, but it is also ours to provide timeless yet affordable alternatives, built with longevity in mind. 

We have turned our attention to exploring quality and durable fabrics such as waxed canvas and corduroy, that grow with their owner & age naturally to create one of a kind pieces that you’ll want to hold onto forever.

A message from our Operations Manager, Jordan

"We all know the environmental impact that we have and what we should be doing to try and make a difference. As a company, we want to be both ethical and sustainable- not only as it’s important for brands, like P&Co, to take a lead, but as it is important to me personally. It’s the future of my family and kids. It’s scary to think about a future without the wildlife and the beautiful landscapes that we’ve all been lucky enough to see, and I can’t understand why anybody would not want to help preserve that.

For me, there is no end goal when it comes to P&Co’s sustainable journey. Of course, we have big plans & clear milestones in place for getting where we want to be; but as we do progress and hit those milestones there will still be new innovative ways to take it that step further.

Within the studio, we have implemented a recycling system, switched to a renewable energy supplier (and energy-saving light bulbs), and have even reduced our office space. However, being more sustainable starts at home- so we will also be educating the team on how they can personally make a change.

The next move for us as a brand is the exploration and finally the introduction of more sustainable fabrics. We are looking into the use of organic cotton, hemp & recycled polyesters for our products- starting with our jersey pieces. You will see that we have already begun using natural finishings, including corozo buttons rather than plastic, but this is just the beginning.

Another big one for us is encouraging our consumers to really look after & hold onto the pieces they buy from us- by introducing things like garment repairs & extended warranties on specific products. We want to be the ones to create heirloom pieces that can be handed down & outlive just a couple of years in your wardrobe.

To achieve all of this we need to make sure that we are working with the right factories. Our main jersey factory has installed solar panels on the factory roof- covering 50% of the energy supply, uses compressed air storage systems to maximise energy efficiency, and keeps water consumption down by collecting rainwater to use as greywater. Next year when we are able to travel we will be re-visiting our manufacturers to ensure that there is as little waste as possible, as well as transitioning to better factories who are already doing more.

Our aim is to become a B-corp registered business- if we can get to that point then we will know that we have taken a lot of the right steps and are on track to leading in the industry. I’m the first to admit that we still have a way to go to get to where we want to be, but for now, we’re heading in the right direction.”
